Should SRU build an ice rink on or near campus in the future?

With the rebuild of the men's club hockey team, and the already existing women's club hockey team, SRU now has two programs running at the same time once again. A big challenge these two teams face is finding ice nearby. Practices are held at a rink thirty minutes from campus and home games are held at another rink that's forty minutes from campus. There just isn't any ice super close to the campus so players have to drive a lot for practices and games. While I can no longer play due to getting a mild concussion my first game and being at my safe concussion limit, the teams would benefit greatly from a closer ice rink. This would also benefit students interested in watching these teams as they'd no longer have to drive pretty far to watch a "home" game. If both programs continue to do well, and the men's team does not run into issues that get them suspended again, I think it could be in the universities interest to build some sort of ice facility near the campus to continue the growth of these teams and their support in the future.

Parking On Campus at SRU

      If you attend this university and have a car on campus, you know what the situation is with parking and have your own thoughts on it. To me, it feels like there isn't enough resident parking half of the time and I get stuck having to walk to my building from the open parking lot by the baseball field. That walk sucks especially now that it's getting cold and it makes me feel like I can't leave or else I'll be stuck in the same position. The fact that lots end up full could be that freshman are allowed a vehicle on campus as well as the enrollment rates here rising a ton. It was a mess the first few weeks with people parking on the grass and pretty much wherever they wanted. I guess I'm asking you guys how you feel about this, at least those of you who still live on campus and have a car. Do you think freshman should be allowed cars still, or should the university make more parking spots available for residents?

Transferring to SRU

If I'm being honest, I didn't even apply to SRU or see it as an option as a senior in high school. My career goals were also a little different at the time. I attended Penn State Behrend with a major in Kinesiology and planned to either take the route of physical therapy or athletic training. As the year went on, some things led me to lean towards the PE route of my major. While I could've continued on this route at Penn State, it would have required me to go to main campus this year already as it wasn't a major fully offered at Behrend. This would've costed me a lot in tuition and would've put me four hours from home. I spent time looking into the program here at SRU and I fell in love with the opportunity in front of me. It was an awesome program that was closer to home and would be beneficial for my future, plus I wasn't forced to leave all of my friends from Behrend behind completely. Stay safe on weekends at SRU!

I'm sure most of you have heard of many things happening near Slippery Rock on the weekends at the many parties that pop up. Whether it's fighting or windows getting stuff thrown at them, it's important you're staying safe if you are out. With a recent incident at the Ivy apartments, it's fortunate no one was injured as things could've taken a very bad turn. With this being said, if you are out with friends or even by yourself, stay aware of the situation around you and make smart choices. Your safety is important and as many of you reading this blog plan to be future educators, you don't want to make the future generations miss out on the amazing teacher you're all going to become.
